Michael McKell

Michael McKell was born in London in 1959 and in the 1980s he was a prolific singer and song-writer having three major record deals and penning songs for the likes of Toyah Willcox, Dollar and Elaine Paige. However, in 1991 he was involved in a near-fatal car crash which proved to be the catalyst for a career change. He studied acting for three years at the Lee Strasberg Institute and began on stage, in classical roles such as ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and ‘Macbeth’ before making his West End debut in the musical Blood Brothers as The Narrator. He also performed for 14 months in the Rod Stewart musical ‘Tonight’s The Night’ creating the Mick Jagger-esque character Stoner in a full on high energy rock role.

After years of television supporting roles as villains, Michael’s acting career exploded, starring in the movie Essex Boys, and having shows under his belt such as Eastenders, the hit TV series Blessed, The Bill and many more. Michael had a starring role in the TV series M:I:T: Murder Investigation Team and then he landed a title role on BBC1’s Doctors where he has played Dr Nick West since 2006. Michael has a partner called Sally, a legal P.A., and they have three children.
